Coventry pub looking to serve up Christmas cheer with toy appeal

A COVENTRY pub will be looking to serve up some Christmas cheer to city children this year by launching a festive toy and gift appeal.

The Brooklands pub has partnered with Coventry City Mission to collect toys and gifts which will be distributed to families who are struggling to provide presents for their children this Christmas.

The ‘Giving Tree’ scheme, which aims to collect gifts for children aged newborn to 17, has been a huge success so far, but staff at the Kingsbury Road pub are now seeking additional donations to make an even bigger impact in the community.

A GoFundMe page was set up to raise around £600 to allow the pub to buy extra gifts, but this total has been smashed with £850 being donated so far.

Coventry City Mission, a charity which aims to help vulnerable people across the city, will distribute the gifts on December 18.

A Brooklands pub spokesperson said: “Our community has already shown tremendous support for this collection.

“Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has taken the time to learn about this amazing cause.

“Together with our community, we aim to have the most successful collection yet, ensuring that no child goes without a gift from Father Christmas this year.”
