Coventry running events making summer return

COVENTRY is set to embrace a summer filled with sporting excitement with two highly anticipated events.

The Coventry children’s mile and the Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge will make their grand return on June 9.

Kicking off the action-packed summer, the Coventry children’s mile will once again take center stage at the War Memorial Park.

Designed to be accessible and inclusive, this event welcomes participation from all Coventry schools, aiming to engage over 2,000 students, teachers, and staff members.

Participants of the Children’s Mile can choose to run, walk, or jog the one-mile route, receiving a t-shirt and certificate of participation to mark their achievement.

The Children’s Mile signals the start of ‘Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge – Paris 2024’ special.

Running from June 9 to July 7, this month-long challenge invites Coventry schools and residents to embark on a journey of fitness and fun.

With 37 parks and green spaces across the city representing Olympic and Paralympic sports, participants can earn virtual medals by scanning QR codes at each park.

The challenge is a collaborative effort between Coventry Council and the city’s school games organisers.

Danny Kingham and Stuart Davoile, Coventry school games organisers, said: “It’s been over a year since we held the last active schools challenge and we can’t wait to support the challenge’s return.

“We want more schools than ever to take part in this fantastic initiative that absolutely anyone can enjoy – any age, any fitness level, any ability.

“We’re encouraging schools, staff and parents to take part for their own school, but also Coventry residents who can still enjoy the challenge and select a school to support.”
