AN INTERNATIONAL collaboration shared ‘Attachment and Trauma’ experiences in Coventry schools.

New Zealand principal Lynda Knight-de-Blois of Glenview School traveled over 11,000 miles to join Andy Wright, chair of the Attachment Research Community (ARC), in Coventry.

They visited local schools to share insights on ‘attachment and trauma’ awareness, aiming to improve student relationships and learning experiences.

Lynda started her visit at Joseph Cash Primary School, meeting head teacher Helen Nelson and deputy head teacher Sara Scott.

She observed how the school successfully developed a relationship-focused approach to support students dealing with attachment and trauma issues.

Lynda also visited President Kennedy School and met with head teacher Samantha Rooke and other leaders.

She presented her work on Relational Neuroscience for Educators at a Learning Forum attended by teachers from across the region, sharing best practices for addressing attachment and trauma in schools.

Andy Wright, chair of ARC said: “Visiting schools like Joseph Cash was a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge around creating a relational approaches for children and young people with attachment and trauma challenges, which if not addressed can lead to maladaptive behaviour.

“We need to reach more young people going through the hardships of life; to change the course of their path and support them with their resilience and emotional well being.”

Lynda said: “It was uplifting to see the work being done across the UK with ARC in aid of attachment and trauma support for young people – I’ll carry this with me as I return to New Zealand.

“There’s much work to be done around solving relational challenges and creating a chance for children to feel happier, healthier and emotionally supported.”
