REMARKABLE Coventry singer turned community champion will be travelling to the Palace of Westminster tomorrow (Thursday) to be given the prestigious British Citizen Award.
Sandra Godley OBE is one of 28 people to receive the award, which recognises exceptional community champions who positively impact their communities.
Sandra was selected to receive the BCA Medal of Honour in May for Services to the Arts.
For over two decades, Sandra has been committed to making a difference through music and creative arts.
Sandra set up the development group, ‘Woman in Music and Creative Arts awards’ to create more opportunities for women to succeed.
She also works with the ‘Positive Youth Foundation’, devoting her time every week to mentoring young people in music and helping with their mental health.
Her single ‘My Darling’, released in August 2021, raised more than £1,000 for local charities ‘Surviving Bereavement’, ‘Molly Olly’s Wishes’ and ‘Coventry and Warwickshire Mind’ to support them through the pandemic.
And she is a MOBO-nominated musician as well as a TV and radio presenter.
The medal presentation will be hosted by TV presenter Matt Allwright, and attended by BCA Patrons, Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins, and The Rt Hon Lord Dholakia.
Medallists then board an Open Top Lap of Honour tour provided by Big Bus London, before attending a certificate presentation at the prestigious Church House.
