Coventry to turn blue to stand with care leavers

Coventry Editorial 27th Oct, 2023   0

COVENTRY will be turning blue this weekend to mark National Care Leavers’ Week.

The city will be showing its support for care leavers as part of the annual campaign to celebrate them through sharing their stories.

The week also aims to raise awareness of the challenges care leavers face and encourage policy and practice change.

Greyfriars, the Whittle Arch, Christchurch and the city centre fountains are among the landmarks around the country being illuminated blue this Saturday (28 October).

The national week began on Wednesday, October 25 and runs until Wednesday, November 1.

Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Coun Patricia Seaman, said: “Coventry is so proud of its care leavers and the way they overcome the obstacles in their young lives to achieve so much.

“Their stories really should be celebrated, and we are delighted to be joining the national campaign and turning our city blue to show how much they mean to us.

“Our Care Leaver Awards are also being held next week when we get a chance to congratulate our young people in person.”
