COVENTRY’S historic venues are set to come alive with an exciting programme of music, art, history, and family-friendly activities.
London Road Cemetery and Charterhouse will be the centers of creativity and exploration, offering a diverse range of events throughout August.
Every Friday afternoon in August, from 2pm to 4pm, Paxton’s Arboretum will be a hub of fun and creativity.
The eclectic programme includes storytelling, arts and crafts, and unique activities.
Charterhouse, located off London Road near Coventry city centre, will also host a series of engaging events including:
On Sunday, August 18, trained instructors from Great Britain’s archery team will provide all equipment and guidance for participants aged five and up – sessions start at 11am in the walled garden.
Peggy King will share stories throughout the day, and the Coventry Mummers will provide music and play from 1pm to 3pm.
Guided tours of Charterhouse will start at 11am.
On Saturday, August 17, there will be guided tours of the Grade I listed building at 11am and live music in the afternoon.
On Thursday, August 22, from 2pm to 4pm, research volunteers will give talks and lead a tour revealing the stories of women buried in London Road Cemetery.
Coventry artist Rupert Cordeux will exhibit and sell his paintings, including watercolours created during Charterhouse’s restoration, on August 17 and 18.
Charterhouse will participate in the National Garden Scheme open days, inviting visitors to bring a picnic and enjoy the walled garden on Friday, August 16 and Friday, August 23, from 11am to 3pm.
Jennie Rutte of Historic Coventry Trust, which led the £12million restoration of Charterhouse, highlighted the inclusive nature of the summer events.
“This is the perfect time of the year to get out and explore Coventry and the places on your doorstep.
“On Friday afternoons during the summer, we will be running activities inspired by the inventiveness and creativity of Joseph Paxton, who designed London Road Cemetery.
“There is so much to learn while having fun at London Road Cemetery and Charterhouse, whatever your age.
“We hope the varied events will keep everyone entertained throughout the summer.”
