Coventry's Music Museum founder wins tourism superstar award

Coventry Editorial 27th Mar, 2024   0

THE FOUNDER and curator of Coventry’s Music Museum wins VisitEngland’s 2024 tourism superstar.

The announcement was made following a public vote, with Pete Chambers securing the highest number and claiming the title.

Pete – who serves as a volunteer, director, and curator at the Coventry Music Museum – has been recognised for his exceptional contributions to promoting tourism in the region.

In a closely contested competition, Pete surpassed other finalists to take the crown from last year’s winner, Geoff Colvin.

Robert Dennis Brown from the Dalby Forest Cycle Hub in the North York Moors claimed the second spot, while Emily Williamson from Pub Tours Ltd in the Peak District secured third place.

VisitEngland Director Andrew Stokes, said: “Pete’s relationships with local musicians have brought unique exhibits to the museum, also drawing both domestic and international visitors to the wider area.

“Congratulations again to Pete and many thanks to all our wonderful finalists and to everyone who got behind Tourism Superstar this year and voted.”

The Tourism Superstar competition, which ran from February 19 to March 24, coincided with English Tourism Week (March 15-24), providing an opportunity for the public to celebrate those making a difference in the tourism industry.

Pete will be presented with his award at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence event on June 5 at the Rum Warehouse at The Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

Pete said: “I’m beyond delighted to be Tourism Superstar 2024 as the shortlist was full of worthy contenders.

“This makes all the hard work so worthwhile, although I love what I do at the museum.

“Now let’s get The Specials on that turntable and dance to some Ska.”
