COVENTRY’S Father Christmas has returned to the North Pole after his sleigh rides across the city raised almost £8,600 for local charities.

The annual Santa Sleigh is organised by the Rotary Clubs of Coventry, with cash raised being distributed between The Myton Hospices and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Some of the funds raised will also go to the Rotary Club’s three chosen charities for the year.

St Nicholas travelled miles and spread plenty of smiles as he visited Walsgrave, Coundon, Holbrooks, Courthouse Green, Poets Corner and Cheylesmore throughout the festive season.

The sleigh journey around the streets of Poets Corner raised the most cash, with Coventrians there raising £1171.75.

Father Christmas also held several static collections at car parks and supermarkets across Coventry.

A Rotary Club spokesperson said: “Thank you to everyone who has so kindly donated to the Rotary Coventry Santa Sleigh this year.

“A fantastic amount has been raised and we are so grateful- we wish everyone a Happy New Year.”
