Coventry's social enterprise is calling for more volunteers

Coventry Editorial 31st Mar, 2024   0

COVENTRYS local social enterprise, EnV (Events Need Volunteers) is calling for more volunteers after marking over a decade of successful legacy following the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The programme is seeking people over the age of 18 who are friendly and passionate about helping people.

Volunteers have the opportunity to support a myriad of local events, ranging from large-scale gatherings like Motofest, Harry Styles concerts and the Godiva Festival to smaller community celebrations.

David Boughey, managing director of EnV, said: “ Our City Hosts are capable, committed, inspirational volunteers building on our proud history of volunteering since 2012.

“Our volunteers have supported hundreds of exciting events of all sizes such as music festivals, sports events, arts and culture displays, media exhibitions and many more.”

The City Hosts, donned in their distinctive blue, black, and white uniforms, have been instrumental in shaping the city’s vibrant atmosphere, particularly during its tenure as the UK City of Culture.

Managed by EnV, the programme has received awards for its outstanding community contribution, including two Queen’s Awards for Voluntary Service in 2012 and 2020, recognised as the equivalent of an MBE for community organisations.

Astrid Clarke, a City Host and EnV volunteer since 2012, highlighted the sense of fulfillment derived from contributing to the city’s cultural landscape while helping their wellbeing.

“Becoming a City Host is like joining a big, supportive family but with the extra plus knowing you are supporting the city.”

Following a successful application, final ‘Get Set’ training events will be held in Coventry city centre during April and May.
