COVENTRY’S graduate talent has been praised and said to be one of the reasons the UK’s largest electricity supplier has opened a new office in the city.

Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, chief marketing and product officer (CMPO) at Octopus Energy, praised the region as a key factor in the decision to establish a new office in Coventry.

Speaking at the recent Coventry and Warwickshire Champions Event, she highlighted the significant potential she sees in the local workforce.

Octopus Energy, the UK’s largest electricity supplier, has moved into its new office at Two Friargate in Coventry after outgrowing its previous space in Leamington Spa.

The new office initially houses 150 staff, covering a variety of roles, with plans for further expansion.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Champions event, attended by more than 150 people, took place at the Albany Theatre in Coventry.

Nic Erskine, Executive Director of CW Champions, opened the event, which was facilitated by Adam Dent of PLMR Advent.

David Merideth, chair of The Albany Theatre Trust, and Kevin Shaw, artistic director and chief executive, kicked off the event by showcasing the theatre’s significant contributions to the local economy, including over £1million in ticket sales last year and a projected £4.5million economic contribution this year.

The morning concluded with a presentation by Mike Murray, Project Director of Greenpower Park and Commercial Real Estate Director at Rigby Real Estate.

Mike discussed the cutting-edge developments at Greenpower Park, located at Coventry Airport, which aims to be a hub for excellence in electrification, battery technology, and manufacturing.

He also highlighted the central role of the West Midlands Gigafactory in this innovative project.

Nic Erskine said: “This was another Champions event with a fantastic, diverse and dynamic range of speakers – all with a link to Coventry and Warwickshire.

“We would like to thank the Albany Theatre for their hospitality and it was great to hear about the incredible work they do in the Coventry community.

“We’d also encourage businesses to find out more about Champions and to get involved with this incredible network that really does shine a light on everything that’s great about our region.”
