Donate to city charities in 'Coventree' appeal

Coventry Editorial 15th Dec, 2023   0

COVENTRY Building Society is making it easier for people to donate much-needed items to local charities this Christmas with its ‘Coventree Promise’.

Now in its sixth year, Christmas trees in the society’s branches have been decorated with gift tags which show the name of a charity and an item they need, such as selection boxes, gloves and toiletries.

Anyone can pop into their local branch, choose a gift tag hanging from the tree and then leave the corresponding item back under the tree. Any gifts need to be placed under the trees by next Friday, December 16 for the charities to receive them by Christmas.

Staff at the society’s head office sites in Binley have also been donating gifts for charity partners across Coventry and branches throughout the city have been inundated with presents since Coventry City’s Callum O’Hare and Matty Godden decided to take part in a Coventree Promise social media video.

Lizzie Gummery, manager of the Coventry Building Society branch in the city centre, said: “We know many people want to give back over the festive season but it’s not always easy to know where and what to donate, so our annual Coventree Promise is there to help.”

She added it helped the charities know they were getting items they needed, adding they were grateful for the extra boost of community support the Coventree Promise had provided every time it had been run.

“Christmas is a wonderful time of year but there are many people still turning to local charities for help – the donations from our members and colleagues helps bring joy and support to those who really need it this festive season.”
