HUNDREDS of people from across the city gathered at Coventry Cathedral on Saturday for a service of thanksgiving and farewell to The Right Rev Dr Christopher Cocksworth, who has become Dean of Windsor.

Rev Cocksworth, who has been Bishop of Coventry for the past 15 years, was appointed to the Deanery of The King’s Free Chapel of St George, Windsor Castle in June.

After training for ministry at St John’s College in Nottingham, Rev Cocksworth served at Christ Church, Epsom Common, in the Diocese of Guildford, and was ordained priest in 1989.

In 1992 he was appointed Chaplain at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London and he served as Director at the Southern Theological and Education Training Scheme for four years from 1997.

He held the title of Honorary Canon at Guildford Cathedral from 1999 and in 2001 was appointed Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge.

The Dean of Coventry Cathedral, the Very Rev John Witcombe said: “Bishop Christopher has been a good friend to the Cathedral for the last fifteen years, and has taken our reconciliation ministry and international partnerships to heart.

“He has spoken boldly about peacemaking in the Diocese, nationally and internationally and has been a strong and consistent supporter of the Cathedral’s life and work.

“We will miss him, and wish him and his family a rich and fruitful stay in Windsor for them, and for all the opportunities of service which it will present.”
