Five Coventrians recognised in Kings Birthday Honours

FIVE remarkable people from Coventry have been recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List for their extraordinary contributions across various sectors.

These honours are a testament to their dedication and impact in education, charity, and community services.

Each year, the King’s Birthday Honours celebrate people from all walks of life who have made significant contributions to society.

This year’s list includes 25 people from the West Midlands, with Coventry boasting five recipients.

The Lord-Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Sir John Crabtree OBE, said: “This year’s recipients showcase a range of outstanding achievements and provide an insight into the amazing people that make our region so great.

“We are all immensely grateful for what they do each and every day, and I am absolutely delighted to see so many gain the recognition they deserve in the King’s Birthday Honours.”




Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) includes:

Tina Louise Costello – the chief executive officer of the Heart of England Community Foundation, Tina has been honoured for her services to charity and voluntary organizations across the West Midlands and Warwickshire.

Her leadership has significantly bolstered community support and development.


Colleen Margaret Fletcher – recently retired as the member of parliament for Coventry North East, Colleen has been recognised for her parliamentary and political service.

Her work has left a lasting impact on the community and political landscape.

Andrew Richard Wright – formerly the head teacher at Harborne Hill School in Birmingham, Andrew has been honoured for his services to children in care, care-experienced young people, and the education community.

His dedication has transformed many lives and educational practices.

Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) includes:

Brian Alfred Beever – Brian, who serves as the group treasurer for the 36th/51st Scout Group, county training adviser, and district treasurer for the Bablake Scout District, has been recognised for his services to young people in Coventry.

His work has inspired and supported countless young individuals.

Reverend Father Mykola Matwijiwskyj – the vicar general of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of the Holy Family of London, Father Mykola has been honoured for his extensive community service.

His dedication has been a cornerstone for the Ukrainian community and beyond.

Tina said: “I am feeling very humbled overwhelmed and emotional, I am beyond proud of the foundation.

“It is all very surreal, I have worked myself up the ladder and I work every day for other people – nothing could be better.”

The King’s Birthday Honours are announced twice a year, in June and December
