Fond memories shared of Coventry's Metropolis restaurant after closure announced

Coventry Editorial 20th Dec, 2023   0

COVENTRIANS have shared their fond memories of Coventry’s Metropolis restaurant, which has spent the last three years serving careers as well as meals, after it announced it would be closing on Saturday (December 23).

The popular venue, run by Pet-Xi Training Ltd, will leave its current site on Earl Street as its three-year residency comes to an end.

As well as the food and drink offerings, it has served as a training ground for young people not in education, employment or training to gain qualifications, and experience and turn their lives around.

Since opening in 2021, it has trained over 350 people on-site and progressed them into hospitality-based roles.

Bosses have said it will be looking for a new home and vowed Saturday’s closure wasn’t the end for Coventry’s only training restaurant.

A spokesperson for Pet-Xi training added: “We would like to thank all our wonderful customers, who have led us to winning back-to-back Foodie Awards including the recent public vote for the Taste of Coventry.

“Thank you to all our incredible staff who have played their parts in our journey, providing exceptional service, incredible food, and beautiful memories for our loyal customers.

“PET-Xi Training will continue to train young people in hospitality-based roles, as we work alongside local hospitality venues during our search for a new home.”

City Hosts Ian and Jayne Oakley regularly visited Metropolis and decided to have their lunchtime gathering there on their wedding day last August.

Ian said: “I want to thank Metropolis for all the hospitality during the City of Culture year when they provided wonderful food for City Hosts which was very welcome after shifts and also hosted regular get-togethers.

“And our wedding day was fabulous and so straightforward- I wish everyone well in the future.”
