A GRASSROOTS football club is celebrating five years of fostering community spirit and enhancing mental health through the beautiful game.

Total Footy Coventry, which started as a casual kick-about among friends, has grown into a thriving community hub with over 320 members.

Founded in 2019 by Mitch Seagers, the club was born out of Mitch’s frustration with the time commitments and injuries that often come with organised leagues.

“I loved playing local five-a-side, but life commitments made it difficult to maintain a regular schedule.

“One Sunday, while having a casual game with friends, I thought: ‘Wouldn’t it be great if there was somewhere you could just go along and play without all the normal commitment?”

The club now hosts casual, friendly games five times a week and recently launched a new 7-a-side league.

Its success lies in its inclusive approach, welcoming players of all skill levels—from semi-professionals to complete novices—and emphasising balanced teams to ensure everyone can participate.

He added: “Total Footy isn’t just about playing football; it’s about creating a supportive and inclusive environment for people from all walks of life. “Our group welcomes anyone, regardless of their football experience, and the emphasis on balanced teams means everyone has a chance to feel part of the community.”

Total Footy Coventry regularly holds social events to help members build friendships and a sense of belonging.

This network has been particularly beneficial for newcomers to the area, offering a ready-made community that helps peopel find jobs and establish roots in Coventry.

With participants ranging from 18 to 55, Total Footy Coventry has shown that football can be a unifying force for people of all ages.

The club plays at three different venues across the city, ensuring accessibility for its diverse membership.
