Former Coventry bouncer tells secret to self-confidence in new book

A FORMER Coventry nightclub bouncer, England karate team member and Commonwealth silver medalist describes the secret to achieving success and inner confidence in his tell-all book ‘Fighting With Myself.’

Ian McCranor, who is originally from Willenhall, also found success as a karate coach, group fitness instructor and personal trainer and has since moved to the United States where he has mingled with Hollywood A-listers.

The 64-year-old never wanted to be a bouncer but said it was a means to become the man he wanted to be and to overcome the lack of confidence steering his decision-making.

He added: “I had sat in life’s restaurant picking negativity from the menu and then I was disappointed when my order was served up in abundance, along with a side of self-pity- but I changed my mindset.

“I’ve never failed because failure doesn’t exist, failure is just a perception, it’s not real.

“Change your perception, change your reality is a theme that repeats throughout each chapter.”

Ian also described how he was invited to California by a Hollywood stuntman after meeting him while running a training session at the Chuck Norris convention in Las Vegas.

He said: “This guy ran a hugely popular martial arts-inspired group fitness class for the Hollywood elite, his classes were wall-to-wall celebrities and the whole thing just felt like a dream to me.

“One minute, I was fighting for my life in a British nightclub, the next I was helping Daisy Duke with fight choreography for the new Dukes Of Hazard movie.”

The book also goes into detail about the moment Ian realised how close he had come to being a hitman’s victim in his book.
