FORMER Coventry City star and European Cup winner Larry Lloyd has passed away aged 75.

Lloyd joined Coventry City as the club’s then-record transfer in 1974.

This followed a superb spell at Liverpool, where he won the First Division title and UEFA Cup and was capped by England.

However, the centre half was hampered by injuries at Highfield Road, resulting in him playing just 54 games for the Sky Blues, scoring six goals.

He moved to Nottingham Forest in December 1976, and under legendary manager Brian Clough he went on to play an integral part in one of the most remarkable footballing stories ever.

He won the Second Division, the 1977/78 First Division title and then the European Cup in 1979 and 1980 in his 218 matches.

He would then enter management with Wigan and Notts County and later became a publican in Nottingham.

Coventry City said the club was saddened to learn of Lloyd’s death and passed its condolences to his family and friends at this sad time.
