FOUR generations of the same family led by a 102-year-old great-grandmother were walking in a winter wonderland last weekend as they rode Coventry’s historic Vintage Santa Sleigh Ride.
May Chinnock, who has rode the sleigh since the 1950s, was joined by son Colin, daughter-in-law Viv and their children and grandchildren at the city’s Transport Museum on Saturday.
May said: “I can’t believe I’m here after all these years. I’ve been so excited, it has been wonderful.
“I remember taking my boy on when he was little, he’s not little anymore.”
She added it was lovely to have been able to take her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and Colin said the ride had not lost any of the magic.
The ride was a based at the Heart of England Co-Op on Corporation Street from 1956 and was saved through a public campaign when the store closed.
It found a new ho, ho, home at Coventry Transport Museum and is the last of its kind still in use.
