Free event for bike security and safety in Coventry

Coventry Editorial 3rd Apr, 2024   0

COVENTRY Skydome is hosting a free bike marking event today (April, 3) to help cyclists keep their bikes safe.

Scheduled from 11am to 2pm, cyclists are invited to the event – which is partnership with Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) and West Midlands Police.

Coventry Bid has provided over 200 bike marking kits for the event, which will be distributed to people free of charge.

The marking process involves affixing robust stickers and unique serial numbers onto bikes – which are then logged onto national bike register with the owners details.

Bike Register is the UK’s leading bike identification platform – a marked bike it 83 per cent less likely to be stolen.

Officers will be at the event to distribute marking kits and offer advice on security and general crime prevention.

Stenciled signs on pavements near bike racks throughout the city centre will alert thieves that the bikes are marked and registered.

Coventry BID manager Jo Glover added: “Cycling is becoming an increasingly popular way to explore our city as it is affordable and green, and this latest partnership is designed to help provide reassurance for both existing cyclists and those who are looking into purchasing a bike.

“Bike marking is an effective theft deterrent and we’re proud to be working with Coventry Skydome to provide free kits to cyclists.”
