A MAN has been arrested after police shut down several Coventry cannabis factories with a combined street value of more than £850,000.

Coventry police officers were among those executing five warrants across the city, during which more than 850 plants and nearly six kilos of dried cannabis were recovered.

Two addresses on Widdrington Road were targeted along with ones on Three Spires Avenue, Northfield Road and Spring Road, which are all believed to be unconnected.

The electrical supply in each property, which was being used to grow the plants, was disconnected.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Supt Ronan Tyrer, of Coventry Police, said: “Dangerous wiring which is used to bypass electricity meters was also found in these properties.

“This could have easily resulted in a fire and I am glad our teams shut these cannabis farms down before that happened.

“Cannabis farms are a danger to our communities and we will take any information we receive from the public about them seriously.”
