Ruth Kelly Wins CGT Award

Massive congratulations are in order for one of Coventry’s hardest working singers – the very talented Ruth Kelly.

Ruth has just won Newcomer excellence in music award at the CGT Awards.

It’s testament to her talent that this award is Croydon based, seeing her gain success way beyond the Midlands area.

The level of this event was evident by the presenters Kaz Crossley and Richard Blackwood.

On winning Ruth said: “Winning the CGT Awards is my greatest achievement to date.

“To be recognised in a different community to where I am based gives me a drive to do more so I can help others achieve their dreams too.

“To all those working towards their dreams, all I can say is never give up and don’t be afraid to ask others for support on your journey.

“There is beauty in unity. Together we want to create a positive, diverse and inclusive brand, a brand like no other in music.

“We celebrate our unique talents and we work together on each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

“By doing this we are building an ‘enterprise’ and a name that will make a difference in the ‘independent music scene’.

“This is already creating opportunities for myself and others which they may not have experienced without this ethos.

“I’m massively grateful for the award with CGT and I’m excited to be more involved in their community of music.”

Bob’s moving on

After 30 years at the BBC, Bob Brolly MBE is moving on.

Bob hardly needs an introduction, one of the area’s finest ever broadcasters, I’m personally indebted to him for all the help and guidance he given me over the years.

Bob has admitted that he is sad to leave the BBC.

His Irish programme has been a staple of local BBC and Sunday afternoon’s will never be the same without Bob.

Hang on though, as they say the cream always rises to the top, and no sooner had Bob left the BBC, when he was offered an Irish show on the new revamped BRMB network,

Bob will present Bob Brolly’s Irish Show on BRMB, formerly Big City Radio, from 2pm to 4pm every Sunday – it began last Sunday, October 1.

Wreckless Eric is here

Wreckless Eric is in town on Sunday, November 19, at Fargo’s Just Dropped In.

As soon as this gig was announced there was a discernible feeling of pending excitement in the air.

“Are you going to go”, I was asked. “You bet I am” I replied.

So if the legend Wreckless Eric is coming to my town, he simply cannot be missed.

Although there has been considerable water under the bridge since the new age days of the 1970s, his Stiff Record credentials still follow him around despite all his excellent body of work since.

I for one recall buying the iconic ‘Whole Wide World’ single at the old Virgin Records back in the day.

Tickets I hear are almost gone, for those lucky ones who already have the said ticket, prepare for an exciting night of real music.
