Nuneaton indie filmmaker appeals for help to finish Coventry Sci-Fi epic

Coventry Editorial 10th Dec, 2023   0

AN INDIE filmmaker working to ensure his new Coventry-based Sci-Fi epic is ‘out of this world’ has appealed for help to ensure he can complete it.

Simon Cox, from Nuneaton, is offering movie lovers who buy a souvenir mug for his latest venture ‘Of Infinite Worlds’ the chance to be mentioned in the film’s end credits.

To complete his latest film, Simon needs to raise £75,000, the equivalent of around 6,000 mugs, and he has already sold 500.

Simon has worked in the UK film industry for over 30 years, starting as an editor in Children’s television.

He has gone on to direct two feature films and found global success in 2019 from his micro-budget sci-fi opus, ‘Invasion Planet Earth’.

One already filmed action setpiece from his latest picture features tanks and soldiers in a ‘War of the Worlds’ style humans versus aliens battle scene.

To showcase his filmmaking journey, Simon produces videos and blogs, offering insight into the behind-the-scenes process.

He has also shot and released a trailer showcasing the souvenir mug and offering a sneak preview of his latest picture’s special effects.

He said: “Raising money for indie films is really hard. The landscape has changed, and making a decent return without the backing of the Hollywood marketing machine is a tough nut to crack.”

“On my previous film, ‘Invasion Planet Earth,’ we had around 500 people supporting the film alongside some private investors.

“My goal is to distribute the risk, ensuring no single person bears a significant financial burden and I like to include our backers in the actual film whenever I can.

“Backing our movie, even in a small way, allows people to be part of the journey.

“Making a film is not rocket science; it just takes dedication, tenacity, and energy.

“I hope it inspires others to realise that if I can do it, they can too.”
