Petition launched against 'green space' proposals in Allesley Green

Coventry Editorial 12th Feb, 2024   0

A PETITION has been launched hitting out at plans to build five new homes on green space in Allesley Green.

The proposals, which if approved would see the homes sandwiched between Park Hill Lane and the A45, have been widely criticised with access and road safety being amongst the biggest concerns.

A new road connecting to ‘High Beech’ has been suggested as the access point.

However, protesters have claimed the narrow entrance raises safety concerns and the design lacks a designated footpath area.

They added the width of the proposed access is inadequate for a two-way road with an accompanying footpath.

Other concerns include fears emergency services would struggle to access the site if needed along with refuse collection vehicles.

Coventry Conservative leader Coun Gary Ridley started the petition opposing the plans.

He said: “This development, as currently proposed, threatens both the safety and character of Allesley Green.

“Imagine fire engines or ambulances trying to navigate that bottleneck in an emergency – it’s unthinkable. And let’s not forget the daily grind of bin lorries and deliveries adding to the chaos.

“This isn’t just about inconvenience, it’s about the very safety of our residents. So I’ve referred this application to the Planning Committee where residents’ voices can be heard loud and clear.”

A Council spokesperson said: “We previously refused an application for residential development for five dwellings at this location. One of our key concerns was the issue of noise from the A45.

“The current application is similar to that previously refused but it now provides an updated noise report.

“The application is under consideration and we are still waiting on some responses from consultees before any decision can be taken.”
