Sky Blues to remember those who served and Coventry Blitz victims

Coventry Editorial 9th Nov, 2023   0

COVENTRY City will be paying tribute to Armed Forces past and present as well as those who lost their lives at home at Saturday’s home match against Stoke City.

Saturday will mark 105 years since the signing of the Armistice Agreement which saw the end to fighting in the First World War, a conflict in which over 16 million people died.

It is also the Sky Blues closest game to the Coventry Blitz anniversary, during which at least 554 people died and around 1000 more were injured.

The Coventry Building Society Arena will fall silent before kick-off and players will be wearing the Poppy on the front of their shirts.

Royal British Legion and bugler Band Sergeant Hugh Sutherland, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Warwickshire, will play the Last Post during the minute’s silence.

Local Armed Forces regimental standard bearers will also be pitchside with cadets.

The club will be donating these shirts to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

And fans will be able to donate to the poppy appeal at the stadium on the day.
