Stolen car tracker leads to Coventry chop shop being shut down

Coventry Editorial 9th Aug, 2023   0

A SUSPECTED Coventry chop shop has been closed down, a stolen car recovered and a man arrested after a stolen Range Rover was tracked from Warwickshire into the city.

After tracking it to Siddeley Avenue, they found a stolen Ford Fiesta intact and car parts stored inside a van.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal a motor vehicle and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Operational Support Unit officers then entered a lock-up on site, where they found Mercedes and BMW engines along with parts from several other cars.

The Range Rover wasn’t at the site of the chop shop but was later tracked down and recovered from Tile Hill and will be reunited with its owner.

DC Lee Buckler, from Proactive CID, said: “This was an excellent and fast response from colleagues in two forces, working together to recover these stolen cars and close down a potentially lucrative criminal enterprise.

“We are stamping down hard on those who steal cars and are involved with dismantling and selling the parts.

“Vehicle crime is a priority for all our teams in Coventry, and we regularly carry out operations and warrants wherever we receive intel.”
