Struggling Nuneaton Borough to play FA Trophy fixture at Coventry Building Society arena

Coventry Editorial 1st Dec, 2023   0

COVENTRY Building Society Arena has offered to let Nuneaton Borough play next Saturday’s FA Trophy fixture against AFC Fylde at the venue free of charge.

Boro has been mired in financial difficulties recently, and in October fears spread the club might be unable to continue playing.

The club was taken over by DA Capital on November 23 but it is still facing ‘ongoing issues’ regarding their ability to use Liberty Way as their home ground.

The club approached the Sky Blues regarding playing the fixture at the Arena and the two clubs have reached an agreement with the venue.

The match will kick off at 3pm at Coventry City’s home ground.

Jimmy Ginnelly, manager of Nuneaton Borough, said: “We can’t thank Doug King, Dave Boddy and the team at the Coventry Building Society Arena enough for their unbelievable gesture.”

Doug King, Owner and Executive Chairman at Coventry City, said:“We are pleased to be able to help our friends at Nuneaton Borough in these difficult times for them.

“As a Club, we are only too aware of the situation that they find themselves in and when they approached us, we were very keen to play our part and help arrange for the game against Fylde to take place at our home ground.”

Paul Michael, Managing Director at Coventry Building Society Arena, added: “We appreciate this is a difficult time for Nuneaton Borough supporters, and we hope this gesture plays a part in helping them to secure their long-term future.”
