Two men who opened fire on Coventry houses jailed

Coventry Editorial 8th Feb, 2024   0

TWO MEN who opened fire on Coventry houses have been jailed for nearly 23 years between them.

Cadel Cumberbatch and Rakesh Jassal were sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Monday, February 5.

They were found guilty of two firearms discharges and a robbery in the city in 2021.

On November 13, 2021, Cumberbatch, now 23 and Jassal, now 24, were both spotted in a car on Anglian Way where a shotgun was fired at a house.

The duo were in a pair of Vauxhall Astras which pulled up outside the house and sounded the horn several times.

When no one came out of the house, shots were fired, breaking a window.

The following day, the pair arrived at a separate address on Station Street East, firing a shotgun at an outbuilding where cannabis was being stored.

As the pair fled, one of them was seen turning back toward the house and firing a third shot at the front of the address.

This third shot broke a living room window.

No one was injured in either incident, despite both being family homes.

They were both caught after they carjacked and assaulted a man they knew in Duke Barn Field.

The assault left the man with numerous head injuries.

Shortly after, they were identified and arrested by investigating officers.

Cumberbatch has been jailed for 13 years, with Jassal given 9 years and 8 months.
