Wasps chiefs express hopes of returning 'next season' on first anniversary of administration

WASPS have said it has made ‘substantial progress’ in establishing a permanent home one year after it entered administration.

The club, which played at the Coventry Building Society Arena since 2014, announced its financial woes on October 17, 2022, which saw them relegated from the RFU.

However, while Wasps chiefs said although they had hoped to have returned to the RFU on the first anniversary of this date, it would be making a further announcement later this month which would detail the ‘now advanced progress’ on the new ground.

The club added it was their ‘steadfast intention’ to return to rugby at the highest level possible, ideally for the 24/25 season.

However, it said it may look to secure its return by the 25/26 season ‘if prudent and necessary.’

In December, the club were bought by HALO22 Limited, a company owned by Christopher Holland, which saw Wasps exit administration.

They were then offered a place in the championship for the 2023-24 season, however, the two-time European champions saw the offer withdrawn in May after they missed a deadline to confirm commitments made to the RFU.

The club was then demoted to the bottom tier of the English rugby pyramid by the Rugby Football Union (RFU).
