CHIEFS at Coventry’s University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust have revealed what is in store for viewers of tonight’s city-based A&E documentary.
A&E: Crash Scene Emergency will air on Channel 5 and tells the stories of patients brought to UHCW, as medical teams battle to treat people injured on roads and motorways.
Tonight’s programme follows Darren, who arrives via air ambulance after falling from his road bike at speed.
It will also feature Robin, a motorcyclist who collided with a van on a blind bend.
Another storyline follows Ric, who experiences a seizure while en route to the hospital after falling off his mountain bike.
The series shows the varied and challenging paths faced on the road to recovery.
University Hospital is the adult Major Trauma Centre for Central England and admits more than 1,800 patients with serious injuries a year.
Tonight’s episode will air at 9pm on Channel 5.
What happened last week?
Last week’s episode followed Rodger Towers, who crashed his paramotor crashing into the ground at speed.
He fractured his pelvic bone and shattered his thigh bone but is on the mend thanks to UHCW staff.
Seven months on from his paramotor crash, Rodger said he is already itching to get back in the sky.
“Recovery is going really well,” he said.
“I have done 12 weeks of hydrotherapy and I’m going into the gym as often as I can and building up my strength.
“I have just been back to University Hospital for a review and they said in hopefully another four months I could be looking at discharge.
“They were worried about whether I needed another operation but they are hopeful that won’t be the case.”
