Young Coventry cancer patient whose bravery went viral finishes chemotherapy

COVENTRY NHS staff marked the final hospital appointment of brave city youngster Rian by braving the one-handed toast challenge he made famous on social media after his cancer diagnosis.

The 11-year-old was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue cancer, in March and later underwent surgery to amputate his left hand.

The courageous youngster then took to social media encouraging others to take part in daily activities he now manages with the use of one hand.

His challenge went viral and was accepted by the likes of Strictly Come Dancing professional Pasha Kovalev and Coventry City stars Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Milan van Ewijk.

Staff presented Rian with a certificate and invited him to ring a bell to mark the end of his inpatient (intravenous) chemotherapy treatment.

Paediatric Nurse, Roshni Koria, said: “Rian has faced obstacles a lot of children wouldn’t dream of but he’s come through an even more likeable and lovable character than when he started.”
