A COVENTRY nursing home received 1,000 knitted red poppies donated by local community for their Remembrance Day service today (Monday, November 11).

HC-One’s Brandon House care home in Bell Green was delighted to receive so man flowers knitted made by the local community and relatives with some arriving from countries across the globe.

This was after Sheryl Davis, Home Manager at Brandon House, put out an appeal on Facebook and the local radio station.

She said: “Everyone at Brandon House is extremely grateful for the efforts friends, family and the local community have made to donate a fantastic 1,000 poppies for Remembrance Day.

“The poppy display is an amazing method of showing our support to The Poppy Appeal and has provided a space in the garden for residents to take a moment’s silence, remember those who fought in the war and pay their respects.”

The poppies have been displayed in the home’s garden, so residents have a space to pay their respects to those who served in the Armed Forces during the war.

The poppies, which are all different shapes and shades or red, have been displayed as a beautiful archway in the home’s garden.

The design of the garden’s poppy display was suggested by a relative visiting the home, who was impressed by Brandon House’s yarn bombing display in the summer.

Residents and colleagues at Brandon House have been busy raising money for The Poppy Appeal, the Royal British Legion’s biggest campaign held every year in November.

The poppies will be sold to guests attending Brandon House’s service, which will be led by Gareth Irvine of St Lawrence’s Church, followed by poems, hymns and a performance of The Last Post by one of the home’s volunteers.
