COVENTRY Observer journalist Les Reid won ‘Highly Commended’ at the prestigious UK-wide Regional Press Awards in London – after he was shortlisted in two categories.
Les was ‘Highly Commended’ – coming second – in the Business and Finance Journalist of the Year category, in which he was shortlisted along with five specialist journalists from major titles including the Yorkshire Post and Oxford Mail.
The judges at the awards ceremony at the London Marriott hotel on Friday noted Les’s “strong local investigative journalism using detailed analysis of accounts and talking to sources.”
He was also shortlisted in the Weekly Sports Journalist of the Year category. The judges said: “Reid took the reader through a morass of information to provide an informative narrative on the decline of a football club.”
Les said: “These awards are testimony to the support for scrutinising journalism by the Coventry Observer, our talented team and editor Chris Willmott, and Bullivant Media.”
Les is a previous winner at the awards and has also twice won Midlands Journalist of the Year.
