COVENTRY Observer journalist Les Reid achieved a double scoop at the coveted Midlands Media Awards.
Les was ‘Highly Commended’ in both the Reporter of the Year (Weekly) and Business Journalist of the Year categories.
A multi-award winning journalist, Les’s latest success was announced at the industry showcase awards event run by the Birmingham Press Club, at Villa Park in Birmingham last Thursday.
It celebrates outstanding work across the Midlands – from newspaper and broadcast organisations to independent websites.
Les was commended for work including his scrutiny of Coventry City Council over the Ricoh Arena dispute and its sale to rugby club Wasps; his exclusive work on Geoffrey Robinson MP’s would-be ‘resignation’; and Coventry City Council executive salaries.
He said: “These awards are thanks to a talented team at the Observer, editor Chris Wilmott, and the group’s commitment to public interest journalism as well as community news.”
