Coventry Police officers help pupils create comic book heroes mural at their school

OFFICERS from Coventry Police have helped transform part of a city school with an incredible new mural.

PCSOs Adam Bettison and Libby Styles, as well as PC Wayne Smith, helped paint the new artwork at Woodfield School.

Joined by pupils and members of the community, they transformed the wall into a stunning display of comic book heroes.

Working through the summer, the team offered pupils the chance to take part and make a difference to their community.

Each pupil who took part received a certificate recognising their work, as well as a reference from West Midlands Police and Street Art Strategy, which works on art projects with communities. They can use the reference for future CV and job application.

Every morning would start with a health and safety briefing with all students being given their PPE to wear and a quick outline of what we were hoping to achieve by the end of the day.

PCSO Bettison said: “What the students didn’t know was that Michael Batchelor, from Street Art Strategy, went back to the school while they were away and finished the top half of the wall.

“We couldn’t allow the students to do this as the risk of having them working at height is too great.

“It was great to see their reactions when they came back and saw the finished piece.”
