A LEADING business organisation in Coventry has backed a major festival in the city that promoters equality and diversity.
The Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce has sponsored Coventry Pride.
Taking place at locations across the city centre on June 9 and June 10, the event is free and this year runs under the theme ‘Be You’.
It will feature a range of performances and attractions to celebrate the region’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Louise Bennett, the chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Coventry is a diverse, welcoming city and that was at the heart of the successful bid to be UK City of Culture 2021 and events such as Pride are a great example of that.
“In terms of business, it’s absolutely vital that companies look to tap into the talents of people from all backgrounds and that is why we are very keen to support Pride.”
David Wilson, a trustee of Coventry Pride, said the event had grown in popularity in the city.
He added: “We are extremely grateful to Louise Bennett and the Chamber for supporting Coventry Pride, which helps us to ensure that the event remains free of charge.
“The event is growing year on year and this is a chance for the Chamber to reach new audiences with their messages of how they can support businesses in a variety of ways.
“As a charity run entirely by volunteers we depend on the support from the wider community to deliver a free pride for Coventry.”
