A COVENTRY programme received £35,000 in funding to continue its work in promoting positive mental wellbeing among young people.

CV Life’s Engage! uses tag rugby as a way to support mental and physical wellbeing and aims to improve the educational, physical and emotional development of children and young people across the city.

It is designed to help school children build life skills and encourage social inclusion.

The funding will allow the programme to deliver sessions alongside the School 2 Club Programme as well as a series of festivals and competitions.

Stuart Bird, business process manager who leads the programme, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding, which will allow us to continue offering valuable support to Coventry’s young people.

“The Engage! programme not only promotes physical activity but also helps to build confidence and emotional resilience.

“We look forward to expanding our reach and continuing to make a positive difference in schools across the area.”

St Peter and Paul in Walsgrave benefited in the programme, teacher Lesley West said: “I’ve seen children who would not usually be involved become very interactive and

I’ve seen some excel in sports which they wouldn’t usually do.

“Good mental health is so important because without it they can’t flourish or build good relationships. One of my students wouldn’t talk six months ago, wouldn’t engage at all, and I’ve watched her flourish and take part which has made me really proud and so happy.”
