Coventry residents can have their water pipes replaced for free as part of £76million Severn Trent scheme

COVENTRY residents can get their water supply pipes upgraded as part of a massive replacement scheme being carried out by Severn Trent.

Work is due to begin next month in the CV1 area of the city – starting on Acacia Avenue just off the London Road. Teams will then work in phases towards Gosford Primary School.

Severn Trent is preparing to kick off a £1.8million investment which will see aging water pipes in the city replaced while also rolling out the ambitious Green Recovery programme in Coventry.

At the same time as carrying out the essential upgrades on its network, Severn Trent is also offering customers where work is already taking place to have their old, lead or leaking supply pipes replaced for free as part of a £76m supply pipe replacement scheme for Coventry.

The supplier said replacing aging water pipes would ensure fewer leaks and problems, ensuring a reliable water supply.

A number of community drop-in sessions for customers are being held at St Anne and All Saints’ Community Church, Acacia Avenue, between 3pm and 7pm on the next three Thursdays – April 14, 21 and 28. People can register for the free pipe replacement scheme and find out more.

Callum Sproull, Severn Trent’s Green Recovery Project Manager, said it was a really exciting time for Coventry as both the capital investment and Green Recovery programme would bring the city’s supply right up-to-date and in the best possible condition.

“The older pipes get, the more likely they’re to cause problems and by replacing them we can make sure that the chances of anything going wrong, is massively reduced.”

Because there will need to be road closures while work is carried out, carrying the two schemes out simultaneously will minimise disruption.

The ambitious lead pipe replacement scheme will see 25,000 customer-owned lead or leaking supply pipes replaced.

Customer owned pipes being replaced as part of the wider Green Recovery programme is a pilot for the city.
