COVENTRIANS are being called on to help appoint the next Chief Constable of West Midlands Police.
Following the announcement that Chris Sims will be standing down as Chief Constable in early 2016, the force have launched their search for his successor.
As part of West Midlands Police’s commitment to making the process as open as possible, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) David Jamieson joined faith leaders from across the city to talk about local policing and called on residents from across Coventry to get involved.
Speaking at the Coventry Interfaith Forum, PCC David Jamieson said appointing a new Chief Constable was a ‘big decision’ and that he wanted input from people across the city and West Midlands region.
He added: “We are a large and diverse region and our police force is the second largest in England, it is therefore only correct that I seek as much involvement from the community as possible to make sure that the public have a Chief Constable who is fully accountable to them as well as myself.
“A great way of getting involved is by applying to join my Citizens Panel who will help assess the candidates for this important role.”
Details on joining the PCC’s Citizens Panel – a group who will help with the assessment of candidates and provide advice to the Commissioner on the appointment – will be advertised in August.
