Coventry Rugby raises nearly £1300 for lifelong fans inspiring granddaughter

COVENTRY Rugby Club has raised almost £1,300 through a bucket collection during its match with Bedford Blues to help a lifelong fan’s granddaughter with her cancer treatment.

Jim Potter wanted to raise funds for seven-year-old Flo Stokes who was diagnosed with stage four High-Risk Neuroblastoma cancer during her summer holidays in 2021.

The cancer was found in about 100 areas of her body and she has since undergone extensive chemotherapy.

After the cancer had reduced enough for further treatment, she underwent a full stem cell harvest and transplant.

But inspiring Atherstone youngster Flo has not let her illness get in the way of her passion to tackle climate change, earning praise for her campaigning from her hero Greta Thunberg and former Prime Minster Boris Johnson.

High-risk Neuroblastoma patients have an extremely high chance of relapsing and, if this occurs, it becomes incredibly difficult to treat.

Fund-raising was initially set up to help the family cover the costs of taking Flo to and from hospital but her parents became aware of a vaccine available in America aimed at reducing the chances of relapse.

A JustGiving page has since raised just over half of the £250,000 needed to cover the cost of travelling back and forth, as well as numerous doses of the vaccine and medical care Flo will require.
