SIDNEY Stringer Academy has launched a crowdfunding campaign for a memorial headstone in memory of ‘beautiful soul’ and former student Hamza Alrimi after his sudden death.

Hamza was just 13 years old when he died after suddenly falling ill back in December.

With his parent’s blessing, the school is looking to raise cash for the headstone which will be laid at his resting place.

A JustGiving page has been set up and on July 18 the school will be holding the first annual Alrimi Memorial Cup – a charity football game with the proceeds going towards the headstone.

Hamza was loved by family, friends and school staff with many complementing his manners, generosity and humility.

He was an extremely talented footballer and represented his school and the Christ the King under 14s team.

Hamza’s dad Mustafa said: “My son was a special person – he loved to help people and would always try to look after his family.

“He was so respectful, staying behind to help teachers after class, and at football practice he would stay back picking up the cones and balls.

“When you were stressed, he would try to make you laugh – many people loved him.

“When I pray, he is beside me, he is always with me and I am so proud of him because he achieved so much and positively impacted so many people.

“He’s a great example for anyone his age and these memorials can help continue his legacy.”

His family have created a beautiful tribute on Hamza’s bedroom wall, with his football shirt and his many awards.

Sidney Stringer has also created a memorial wall on its campus, and each school year the Hamza Alrimi Award will be handed out to the student who best displays his values of good conduct, character and kindness.

Hamza’s mum Hala added: “He was a beautiful boy and was always smiling.

“When I’m dreaming, he comes to talk to me and tells me he is still alive.

“Everyone at the school and his football coach have been so wonderful, we are so grateful for everyone.”

Sidney Stringer associate headteacher Gemma Earles said the school was devastated by Hamza’s passing and was determined to ensure his memory was honoured.

“Hamza was incredibly well-liked and respected by his peers and all of the staff.

“He had integrity and did the right thing, even when it wasn’t always the easiest choice- when Hamza gave his word, he kept it.”
