PUPILS from Meadow Park School were in Coventry Magistrates’ Court earlier this month as part of the Young Citizens Mock Trial Competition.
The competition saw 52 youngsters aged between 11 and 14 years old attend to “try” a case against their peers.
Meadow Park’s Zak Jones, 12, was awarded the best prosecutor prize, while 14-year-old Hasna Imani won the best supporting role.
And the youngsters were presented with their prizes by his honour Judge Andrew Lockhart KC, President of the Magistrates’ Association’s Coventry and Warwickshire branch.
The young citizens national mock trial competition has been running since 1991 and is sponsored by His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service.
The scheme sees mentors introduce students from non-fee-paying secondary schools to the workings of the legal system in a typical trial.
Meadow Park librarian Minh Dieu Nguyen said all the students loved the experience and learned a lot from the event.
