COVENTRY Jamboree Scouts has now passed the halfway point as they attempt to raise the £80,000 needed to attend a once-in-a-lifetime experience this summer.
A group of 18 specially selected scouts aged between 13 and 17 have been working for the past 10 months across the city to raise the cash to enable them to attend the world scout jamboree in South Korea.
The special event will see them join over 40,000 other youngsters from around the world.
The youngsters continued their push towards the grand total on Saturday with a successful charity car wash, where they raised over £700 in donations.
This followed a huge fund-raising drive in the lead-up to Christmas, when more than £12,000 was raised through schemes such as running stalls at 11 festive fayres and markets and working at two lights switch-ons.
They also assisted with four round table Santa sleighs, as well as organising and performing a Christmas sing-a-long at 11 Coventry care homes.
And a fabulous festive raffle saw the scouts raise £3506 towards their cause.
The Jamboree aims to bring youngsters together to take action on issues including peace, sustainability and equality, and shows them how they can make a difference.
The cash will also go towards the training camps needed to prepare for the jamboree as well as funding other scouts in less fortunate areas of the world.
The youngsters will be hoping to take their next steps towards the magic £80,000 mark with a charity family race night at the Heart of England social club in Meriden on Saturday, February 4.
