COVENTRY’S Arena Shopping Park is asking children across the city to get creative and submit work for a brand-new artwork celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the Commonwealth Games.
Children aged between five and 14 are being urged to send in pictures which will be incorporated into a 2metre squared cube artwork at the centre on May 28.
It will feature the names of the children who will have their work chosen.
Pictures can be inspired by either event, and Jubilee picture entries can be on anything to do with the event, for example The Queen herself, a street party or one of Her Majestry’s corgis.
Commonwealth pictures be of sports, athletes or even medals.
Any method can be used to create the pictures including pens, paint or collages.
The artwork will be translated into designs depicting different stories connected to the two landmark events by an illustrative artist.
Everyone will then have the chance to come together to finish the artwork on the Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29, when the public will be invited to go along to the centre to colour in the artwork before it goes on display for the rest of summer 2022.
Centre manager Peter Hardingham said: “This is an ambitious project, but we really wanted to do something to mark these two major events which would involve as many local people as possible, coming together to create something as a lasting legacy for this historic moment.
“We can’t wait to see the kids’ artworks and to watch them come to life as part of the cube at Arena.”
Entries for pictures close next Friday, May 13, with the winners being chosen by Mr Hardingham.
