I WANT to wish everyone in Coventry a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
It’s the time of the year to be with friends and family, to celebrate and be thankful for what we have. But right now, I know people in our city are struggling.
Energy bills and food prices have rocketed.
People are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. I hear this from constituents and I see it first-hand volunteering at our city’s foodbanks, where they’re finding it impossible to keep up with soaring demand.
As the Labour MP for Coventry South, this year I have been doing everything I can to stand up for the people of this city – from donating £10,000 to Coventry Foodbank to launching a national campaign to fight the cost-of-living crisis.
In Parliament, I brought forward proposals for policies like extending free school meals to include all children in poverty – so no child has to learn on an empty stomach.
But the political establishment is letting you down.
This year we had three Conservative Prime Ministers and four Chancellors in just three months.
The Conservatives have been in meltdown, failing to get to grips with the cost-of-living crisis.
That’s why, as an MP for this city, I am determined to boot them out, replacing them with a government that will put the needs of the many before the greed of the few.
