THE MP for Coventry South has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Zarah Sultana is in the running to be ‘Backbench MP of the Year’ in the inaugural Pagefield awards.

She was praised by the judges as a ‘passionate campaigner’ and she was identified as being ‘a champion for young people, working class communities and ethnic minorities’.

Pagefield also highlighted Ms Sultana’s campaign to extend free school meals to ensure no child went hungry at school.

The drive this week received a major boost after London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced he was extending free school meals to all primary school pupils in the capital.

The awards are run by the public relations firm Pagefield, with judges including Daily Mail political editor Jason Groves, journalist Ailbhe Rea from Politico, and think-tank director Seb Payne.

The overall winners of the award will be announced at a reception in London on Tuesday, February 28.

Last year, Ms Sultana was awarded the ‘Patchwork Young People’s MP of the Year’ for her work in championing underrepresented and disadvantaged communities.
