A COVENTRY special school is appealing for donations so it can fund an ‘essential’ new minibus for its children.

Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) secretary of the Three Spires Academy, Dawn Spencer, is calling for help to reach a £2,500 funding goal.

The school on Kingsbury Road in Coundon caters to pupils with severe learning difficulties between the ages of four and 11.

Ms Spencer says a minibus is vital for teaching what the school calls ‘learning and living skills’ – which allow children to gain experience adapting to public, real-life situations.

The bus would mean children could be transported to different locations for field trips as part of the school’s curriculum.

The GoFundMe donations page started earlier this month has raised more than £1,300.

The school hopes it can reach its target to buy the minibus in time for the first term of the academic year in September.

On the page Ms Spencer wrote: “We have found an ideal bus for our school.

“We’re almost there and need just £2,500 to make it happen.

“Both my sons attend this wonderful school and I’m on the PTA committee and a past school governor.

“The school minibus has finally failed, which is having a serious effect on the well-being of the children, and the school’s ability to support the kids with what they need.

“It’s necessary to get the kids out of the small classrooms to self-regulate.

“Please help us to make it happen for the kids, they desperately need it.”

Among the donors, Ro Walker-Gordon said: “This is a wonderful school with the most amazing pupils.

“We just want them to be the best they can be and this minibus will truly enhance and enrich their schooling.”

Paul Walkden wrote: “Coventry City Council should donate. Essential item required for these kids.”

Yvonne Middleton commented: “To support my grandson’s school and all the other young people to enable them to enjoy trips out and about to enrich their lives.”
