Coventry sports star scoops silver at wheelchair basketball world championships

COVENTRY sports star Ellan Fraser is celebrating after helping Great Britain to silver at the Women’s Under 25 wheelchair basketball World Championships in Bangkok.

Ellan, who plays for Coventry Crusaders, was among the 12 selected to represent her country in Thailand to compete in the tournament.

The team beat China, Japan and Spain twice to make it to the final, before falling to the USA at the last hurdle.

Ellan played 30 minutes out of 40 in the final and scored 29 points across the tournament, the fifth highest in the squad.

This trip wasn’t Ellen’s first taste of international action, having featured for the GB Women at the senior World Championships in June.




The 19-year-old and is now hoping to secure a spot on the plane for the Paris Paralympics next summer.

Ellan has Cerebral Palsy, a neurological condition she has had since birth.


She started playing the sport in 2015 and has since gone on to represent Worcester Wolves in the Women’s Premier League, the first-ever professional disability sports competition in the country.

Ellan said she was pleased to have secured second place in her first 25 world championships.

She added: “I love these girls with all my heart, I’ve known them my whole career and to be playing in an international competition with them is just amazing.

“There were so many memories made and we all played so well.”
