COVENTRY sporting icon Chelsie Giles officially opened the city’s brand-new Yamato Judo club.
The world number one met some of the club’s 60 members, along with the staff.
The club, which runs judo classes for people of all ages, is based in the arches in Coventry City Centre and is set to become the biggest in the West Midlands.
And it is offering discounts for lessons to residents on low incomes to help people with the cost-of-living crisis.
Co-owner Mark Davis said: “It’s been a huge effort to get to this moment, but one we are all extremely proud of.
“Having two businesses of my own, I had just 25 days to turn the venue from a blank shell into a judo club.”
