COVENTRY Crusaders wheelchair basketball star Sarah Hope made history last month as she was part of the Great Britain side who competed in the first-ever formal women’s Para Ice Hockey tournament.
Sarah, who retired from the Great British wheelchair basketball team earlier this year, flew out to Wisconsin to once again compete for her country in an entirely new sport.
The World Para Ice Hockey Women’s World Challenge was the sport’s first formal International Paralympic Committee female tournament.
And Sarah, who joined the GB Women’s Para Ice Hockey programme shortly after it was formed last October, was named the team’s captain.
Great Britain competed against the USA, Canada and an All-Star World team, and despite not winning a game Sarah said she was ‘incredibly proud’ of the team.
“We came together and maintained energy and intensity throughout the tournament.
“The importance of this week cannot be understated for both the team and the sport and I’m already looking forward to next year and seeing more women’s teams enter.”
