THE CONSERVATIVES have selected candidates contesting the general election in the three constituencies in Coventry.
The Conservative’s all-women line up for Coventry has Mattie Heaven, who recently became councillor for Wainbody, as the candidate for Coventry South.
Also standing are Clare Golby in Coventry North West, currently a Warwickshire county councillor, and Sophie Richards, a former council candidate in London, who is the candidate for Coventry North East.
Coun Heaven said: “I am delighted to be selected as the Conservative candidate for Coventry South. A Conservative government with a functional majority can get Brexit done with the Prime Minister’s great new deal and focus on the issues that make a real difference to people’s lives – the NHS, schools, and policing.”
Clare Golby said “I can’t wait to hit the campaign trial, meeting voters and talking about our positive message for Coventry. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party offers nothing to local people, other than more confusion, more delay, and more indecision, with no prospect of getting Brexit done and other important issues not getting the attention they need.”
Sophie Richards, a school governor from Coventry, said: “I’m thrilled to be standing in my home city. We’ve already seen some of Jeremy Corbyn’s plans for this country: on top of wrecking our economy, he wants to spend 2020 having yet another referendum on Brexit. The only way we can unblock Parliament and get it working again on the things that matter to local people is to vote Conservative.”
Voters go to the polls on December 12. Ms Heaven will face Zahra Sultana (Labour) and Becky Finlayson (Green) in Coventry South.
Coventry North-West is contested by Taiwo Owatemi (Labour) and Stephen Gray (Green). Incumbent Colleen Fletcher (Labour) and Matthew Handley (Green) will be on the ballot for Coventry North-East.
